Liam Neeson has joined the cast of Universal's Battleship, the Hasbro board game adaptation directed by Peter Berg.

The film also stars Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgard, Brooklyn Decker, Rihanna and Hamish Linklater

Neeson will play the Admiral Shane character alongside Kitsch, who portrays a Naval officer and Shane's future son-in-law. Decker is playing Shane's daughter. Skarsgard will play the brother to Kitsch's character.

Battleship will unfold as a massive Naval adventure across the seas, in the skies and over land as our planet fights for survival against a superior force.

Universal Pictures is scheduled to release the movie on May 18, 2012.


I'll LOL if Neeson uses the line "You sunk my battleship!" in the movie. Glenn Shadix, 58, passed away this morning (Tuesday) at his Birmingham, Alabama home, after an accident where authorities believe that the actor had fallen from his wheelchair and suffered a fatal blow to his head.

Shadix, who was best known for portraying Otho - the interior decorator in the film Beetlejuice - was using a wheelchair due to "mobility problems", the actor's sister told The Birmingham News.

Aside from his role in Beetlejuice, where he participated in the iconic Day-O dance, Shadix also worked with Burton in two other films; he portrayed the voice of the mayor in the cult classic The Nightmare Before Christmas, and he took the role of the orangutan Senator Nado in the 2001 Planet of the Apes remake. In total, the actor appeared in over 70 films and TV shows.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no funeral arrangement details had been released.

Condolences to his family and friends during this difficult tragedy.
